Small 5.4–11.3 kg
A compact, lively companion with a short coat and a flat face. Eye protection, breathing comfort and sensible activity in warm conditions deserve daily attention.
Both can appeal to people seeking a compact companion, but the purchase decision should begin with health and daily comfort. Flat-faced dogs can have breathing difficulties, and heat or strenuous activity can add risk. Discuss an individual dog’s breathing and exercise tolerance with a veterinarian.
The French Bulldog is generally stockier; the Boston Terrier tends to have a lighter, more athletic outline. That distinction does not establish how comfortable either individual will be in exercise. Look for easy breathing and comfortable movement rather than judging health from a short online clip.
Ask about relevant screening and veterinary history, including breathing, eyes and movement. Short coats still need skin and coat care. If long hikes or warm-weather activity are central to your life, discuss those expectations before deciding that either breed fits your plans.
